​  The Problem

• ​There are nearly 500,000 children and youth in foster care in the U.S.
• There are 60,000 foster youth and children living in California.
• Over 22,000 youth exit foster care each year at age 18, 19 or 20.
• In California, over 4,600  youth leave Foster Care every year. 
• An alarming number of former foster youth experience homelessness in the first 18 months of emancipation.
• Less than half of former foster youth are employed 2.5-4 years after leaving foster care, and only thirty eight percent (38%) have maintained employment for at least one year.
• Youth in foster care are forty four percent (44%) less likely to graduate from high school and after emancipation, forty to fifty percent (40% – 50%) never complete high school.
• Girls in foster care are six times more likely to give birth before the age of 21 than the general population.
• Sixty percent (60%) of women who emancipate from foster care become parents within 2.5-4 years after exiting care.
• Parents with a history of foster care are almost twice as likely as parents with no such history to see their own children placed in foster care or become homeless.

 "I am a full time college student and work part time. Living at the Taylor house has given me the opportunity to have some stability in my life. I have a place to stay, learn and grow. One of the things I enjoy most about living at the Taylor house is having positive adults around who are helping me transition into adulthood. I am currently studying to get my driver’s license and saving up for a car to help me on my way to success. The Taylor house will help make this goal a reality. I am so happy and proud to say that since I moved to the Taylor house I have been able to focus on my well-being and my future instead of worrying about my environment. Last semester was my first year of college and although I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect I worked hard and made it on the dean’s list. This upcoming semester I hope to make it into the HS society and the presidents honor roll. I wouldn’t be able to focus on my goals if I didn’t have a stable environment, so for that I am thankful of the Taylor house.""
